A beautiful display of succulents is fun to paint and layer. So many colors to play in. And I think I need more fun ultramarine blue colors to add to my palette. For now layering with what I had worked pretty well.</div>

Yes, this is a knitting blog and it has long been neglected due to the busy life of being a grandma. Now it will be fun to add in some of the other artwork I have been working on in between grandparenting, and a little less knitting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AeZEsvgcJ3A/VfTqjAtvjfI/AAAAAAAAGo4/7NSaR3NdbyE/s1600/2015-07-22%2B23.40.56.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AeZEsvgcJ3A/VfTqjAtvjfI/AAAAAAAAGo4/7NSaR3NdbyE/s400/2015-07-22%2B23.40.56.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
Painting during my long painting retreat, taught to me by my sister, Wendy. We painted into the late hours. She taught me alot about which colors to use and how to mix. I have alot to learn! Here's my palette so far:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KHcss63UowU/VfTqnaiSHXI/AAAAAAAAGpU/TrT1Chd-_4Q/s1600/2015-08-03%2B12.48.16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KHcss63UowU/VfTqnaiSHXI/AAAAAAAAGpU/TrT1Chd-_4Q/s400/2015-08-03%2B12.48.16.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
I have since learned you can rough up your palette with a bit of Bon Ami so it won't bead up so much as shown here:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iguGD-Rxvdc/VfTqoEwQo8I/AAAAAAAAGpg/7oy-GYrIChw/s1600/2015-08-03%2B14.03.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iguGD-Rxvdc/VfTqoEwQo8I/AAAAAAAAGpg/7oy-GYrIChw/s400/2015-08-03%2B14.03.20.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
These poppies were out of a watercoloring botanicals book that she brought over for me to try out first. Voila, my first real painting!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OG7DJs85ppU/VfTqjJBvm_I/AAAAAAAAGo8/Nri59r6yoZk/s1600/2015-07-22%2B20.02.03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OG7DJs85ppU/VfTqjJBvm_I/AAAAAAAAGo8/Nri59r6yoZk/s400/2015-07-22%2B20.02.03.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Next we moved on to painting the beach rocks, using a photo reference from a workshop done by Wendy with Mary Gibbs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LaVPS1G16rg/VfTqkyG1VMI/AAAAAAAAGpE/7vW0M7WV5Tk/s1600/2015-07-23%2B18.55.30.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LaVPS1G16rg/VfTqkyG1VMI/AAAAAAAAGpE/7vW0M7WV5Tk/s400/2015-07-23%2B18.55.30.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tired from staying up late on our marathon painting adventures. But proud! Once finishing my first one, I was excited to do a second one!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MZb6qAHmk5c/VfTqmNifcHI/AAAAAAAAGpM/4bmfAgxuksY/s1600/2015-07-26%2B13.41.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MZb6qAHmk5c/VfTqmNifcHI/AAAAAAAAGpM/4bmfAgxuksY/s400/2015-07-26%2B13.41.10.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This shot is showing the comparison of my first rock painting and my second. Both unique and fun to see how they came out so differently.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Tmknb_tpqjQ/VfTqoOVNvsI/AAAAAAAAGpk/5lKQot-cje4/s1600/2015-07-28%2B17.30.50.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Tmknb_tpqjQ/VfTqoOVNvsI/AAAAAAAAGpk/5lKQot-cje4/s400/2015-07-28%2B17.30.50.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My next painting was based on a photo my friend took while in Varenna, Italy of her beach rocks:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qS5vSTk_CCE/VfTqrtKVSjI/AAAAAAAAGqE/Bqy7QdpAAxs/s1600/2015-08-16%2B20.26.46.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qS5vSTk_CCE/VfTqrtKVSjI/AAAAAAAAGqE/Bqy7QdpAAxs/s400/2015-08-16%2B20.26.46.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I also painted some pinecones that were based off the same workshop that my sister attended (mentioned above)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ACoVsEXYD-s/VfTqrpLY9UI/AAAAAAAAGp4/UvdXY-HT60w/s1600/2015-08-25%2B11.08.41.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ACoVsEXYD-s/VfTqrpLY9UI/AAAAAAAAGp4/UvdXY-HT60w/s400/2015-08-25%2B11.08.41.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The next friend I painted for had visited Cinque Terre, Italy and had photographed these rocks she thought would make an interesting subject to paint. They had alot of interesting layers of color. The result!:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jQbGLtLCgI4/VfTqscvdBPI/AAAAAAAAGqI/jABoSso7XAg/s1600/2015-08-29%2B11.29.19.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jQbGLtLCgI4/VfTqscvdBPI/AAAAAAAAGqI/jABoSso7XAg/s400/2015-08-29%2B11.29.19.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
A teacher friend whose subject is geology, had quite a collection of rocks on her shelf for me to use for her subject matter on her painting:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zUB-30RarsA/VfTqtPR1xRI/AAAAAAAAGqM/3YcRSHW1Ogo/s1600/2015-09-04%2B16.55.56-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zUB-30RarsA/VfTqtPR1xRI/AAAAAAAAGqM/3YcRSHW1Ogo/s400/2015-09-04%2B16.55.56-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Another fun one from one of our favorite spots on our own trip to Italy of a cute little red fiat on the streets of Montepulciano. Of course the doorways are charming:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GKH5GZt45wg/VfTtwKa1GCI/AAAAAAAAGqU/tmS0IHBS1Gk/s1600/2015-09-07%2B21.22.01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GKH5GZt45wg/VfTtwKa1GCI/AAAAAAAAGqU/tmS0IHBS1Gk/s400/2015-09-07%2B21.22.01.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Another magical place in Italy we visited was a castle in Tuscany and on the way down the hill we saw wild horses. Here was my vantage point from the top of the climb up into the castle tower. The lichen and the growth and color on the stone was incredible. Still some tweaking being done on this one:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_KtB9UODVuk/VfTuxkc2v6I/AAAAAAAAGqk/THmmCeU9XDc/s1600/2015-08-19%2B16.32.07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_KtB9UODVuk/VfTuxkc2v6I/AAAAAAAAGqk/THmmCeU9XDc/s400/2015-08-19%2B16.32.07.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
A whole new world opened up to me in the artistic expression of watercoloring!<br />
Oh, and the last few are of my beloved glassybabies that I painted for a friend of mine:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6NCAZvKz_x8/VfTwOUvnlII/AAAAAAAAGq0/Yd5LbBE1eEU/s1600/2015-09-07%2B16.20.38.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6NCAZvKz_x8/VfTwOUvnlII/AAAAAAAAGq0/Yd5LbBE1eEU/s400/2015-09-07%2B16.20.38.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UAL8xaz3jq4/VfTwOTo60PI/AAAAAAAAGqw/NKGnvuHoeVU/s1600/2015-09-07%2B16.21.15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UAL8xaz3jq4/VfTwOTo60PI/AAAAAAAAGqw/NKGnvuHoeVU/s400/2015-09-07%2B16.21.15.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
That was alot, as you can see for one summer. Wouldn't my high school art teacher be surprised? I have begun to sell my prints also, which is really fun for me. So contact me if you are interested. Some are available in giclee prints.<br />
<br />
I am still knitting however, and my Dad made me this fabulous yarn bowl:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8_sYwPIEuVs/VfTxbQHKVbI/AAAAAAAAGrE/ay0MWolWWO4/s1600/2015-09-12%2B08.43.34.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8_sYwPIEuVs/VfTxbQHKVbI/AAAAAAAAGrE/ay0MWolWWO4/s400/2015-09-12%2B08.43.34.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

We are so excited and thrilled. We found out also it is going to be a BOY! Oh joy, a boy! Out of the box floated these balloons!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p9a_0ndQzlM/Us-EmqXWiUI/AAAAAAAAGQY/SD18bviK0lI/s1600/2013-12-25+12.19.15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p9a_0ndQzlM/Us-EmqXWiUI/AAAAAAAAGQY/SD18bviK0lI/s1600/2013-12-25+12.19.15.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I have more reason to knit! I will be able to put good use to the Grandma stash of blue sweaters, and the pumpkin hat and blankey ....and keep on going from there!<br />

This blog has long been silent, however it may be more alive again this coming year as I have more reason to knit!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3561803519630375963.post-80338625052067274802013-08-04T21:52:00.000-07:002013-08-15T17:19:45.247-07:00Summer Scarf and Wedding <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ep0kRIj4eT8/Uf8tpzI1ySI/AAAAAAAAGDw/jDkINiGOs2k/s1600/IMAG3619.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ep0kRIj4eT8/Uf8tpzI1ySI/AAAAAAAAGDw/jDkINiGOs2k/s640/IMAG3619.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It's been a warm, dare I say HOT summer in Seattle. Time to lighten up a bit and knit with something besides my usual standby of wool. Trying out some hemp and hemp/blend from the newest yarn shop around, Mad Cow Yarn! I bought two colors, and when I ran out of the grey I moved on to the pewter/brown. This pattern is from Ravelry and is called Summer Scarf. This is the closest I get to lace knitting, folks.<br />
What I like about this pattern is it purposely calls for larger needles to give a more open fabric. Hooray! So instead of using 3.5 mm needles, I am using more like a size 4.75 or a size 7 needle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--bpiGJ7KKXA/Uf8tpr7MTHI/AAAAAAAAGDs/E7XaICKI7_U/s1600/IMAG4053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--bpiGJ7KKXA/Uf8tpr7MTHI/AAAAAAAAGDs/E7XaICKI7_U/s640/IMAG4053.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Instead of knitting this in two pieces and seaming it in the middle, as called for, and you know I never do exactly as a pattern calls for... I just continued on with the second color when I ran out of the first. I will figure out how to join the ends when I am through. No worries, it's just yarn!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vzC3vvgptmQ/Uf8tpfdaJxI/AAAAAAAAGDo/790fCo99Mpo/s1600/IMAG4055.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vzC3vvgptmQ/Uf8tpfdaJxI/AAAAAAAAGDo/790fCo99Mpo/s640/IMAG4055.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I am thinking it might end up being a lacy cowl instead of a scarf. It is pretty broad so that is what I am imagining it becoming. And that is what it is. I seamed the ends together and voila! A cowl! I like the two-tonedness to it and how I can wear it many ways.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I like this one of all four of us as our bride leans against her daddy resting after dancing, and I am looking on rather misty-eyed with my oldest married daughter to my side holding her sister's bouquet...ah...it's so good to have photographers in my family-These ones caught by my brother's candid camera. Still awaiting the formal photos being processed. In the meantime...<br />

Everyone needs a Grandma stash. You know for your own future grandkids. You give away so many things to other people and rarely keep anything for your own. I am changing that right now! A few items for the Grandma stash. I am saving back some things for "one day". I think these turned out cute. I used some easy care yarn for this one. And a free pattern on Ravelry: <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/caidens-skirt"><span style="color: #990000;">Caiden's Skirt</span>.</a><br />
Check it out. Super easy, super cute. One I made with a simple crochet chain tie, the other an easy I-cord tie.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3561803519630375963.post-5058190478618551692013-04-12T19:58:00.000-07:002013-04-13T20:04:06.246-07:00Sidecar JacketThis Sidecar Jacket is one I have wanted to do for a long while now.<br />
Kind of a cute cropped one. I love the color I chose....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-48YaKLcvHc4/UWobvqfShWI/AAAAAAAAGBo/qryTA1SmUg0/s1600/IMAG2939.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-48YaKLcvHc4/UWobvqfShWI/AAAAAAAAGBo/qryTA1SmUg0/s640/IMAG2939.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
However I did not love the weight of this yarn or the ply...too soft for this large-needled heavy sweater. I would choose a heavier gauge yarn if I did it again. Overall, it was fun to construct, with the cabled waistline first, then picking up stitches upward for the body. However, the picked up stitches are quite visible in this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IIW1bXQ4t0c/UWobwHfIxNI/AAAAAAAAGBw/92d2VhCL8as/s1600/IMAG2963.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IIW1bXQ4t0c/UWobwHfIxNI/AAAAAAAAGBw/92d2VhCL8as/s640/IMAG2963.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
I used some extra snaps to try to hold the front flap down and tried to tack the collar down also...<br />
Overall, cute pattern, poor choice of yarn on my part.<br />
You may find it here on Ravelry: <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sidecar-jacket"><span style="color: #0b5394;">Sidecar Jacket</span></a><br />

I looked up a U Tube on how to do a pom pom and took a few tries, but I made one for the hood. Shown here before blocking, of course! One of my sleeves came out larger than the other, though I did try to mirror exactly the first sleeve. This resulted in a larger seam on one sleeve. Otherwise there are no seams except for the ones under the sleeves, and one on the hood. The hood is picked up from the neckline and then I did do a seam down the center of the hood, though instructions say you could do a 3 needle bind off to close up the hood as well.<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2VuuRNN2nO4/UJR3SBQs7MI/AAAAAAAAFzQ/ZgALkQITC98/s1600/IMAG2210.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2VuuRNN2nO4/UJR3SBQs7MI/AAAAAAAAFzQ/ZgALkQITC98/s640/IMAG2210.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I got inspired to make some of my own little chalkboards! I thought I would use chalkboard paint, though there is also a spray you can get. I used the liquid kind. It is available at any craft store. I painted many coats on this art board letting the coats dry in between each layer. The only drawback to using this paint, is you get the foam brush marks on the finished product. So a spray would leave a smoother surface. However it still worked pretty well. <br />
I also chose a tiny art board with an easel for fun, as well as a few picture frames. For these, I painted directly on the glass.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Elwx_RZvd6E/UJR3Zg0OIwI/AAAAAAAAFzY/bWCJ6sbmPb8/s1600/IMAG2212.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Elwx_RZvd6E/UJR3Zg0OIwI/AAAAAAAAFzY/bWCJ6sbmPb8/s640/IMAG2212.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
After letting these dry a good looong time, I put them back together and tried them out with some chalk. Pretty darn cute!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AIZFvAwa-_Y/UJR3hjDFITI/AAAAAAAAFzg/JFGoWM5Qs70/s1600/IMAG2221.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AIZFvAwa-_Y/UJR3hjDFITI/AAAAAAAAFzg/JFGoWM5Qs70/s640/IMAG2221.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The large board I put in the kitchen to use kind of like a Bistro menu board. Dinner is served!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kqzQCCWW82c/UJR3mO1mcZI/AAAAAAAAFzo/lAlUAQnM65s/s1600/IMAG2226.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kqzQCCWW82c/UJR3mO1mcZI/AAAAAAAAFzo/lAlUAQnM65s/s640/IMAG2226.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One of the frames I took in to work and on this one, I decided to put some chalkboard vinyl with adhesive backing on the reverse side of the glass. This chalkboard "paper" is sold in a roll, and usually found near the white boards. <br />
I got some chalkboard Bistro markers that are like a paint pen, and come in quite a few colors. They wipe off with a damp cloth. Voila! It really makes a nice changeable greeting for the counter.<br />
Happy Fall!<br />

<br />
I did see a few small yarn shops in Lucca. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y_UNX9k3flE/UGPBij6_9fI/AAAAAAAAFqY/pFw83dy_q3E/s1600/LovilaneLuccaP1010458.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y_UNX9k3flE/UGPBij6_9fI/AAAAAAAAFqY/pFw83dy_q3E/s640/LovilaneLuccaP1010458.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pvOIScoFWjc/UGH1DSWjtfI/AAAAAAAAFhw/Soj2G41Er-M/s1600/IMG_2449.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pvOIScoFWjc/UGH1DSWjtfI/AAAAAAAAFhw/Soj2G41Er-M/s640/IMG_2449.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And a knitwear store in Montepulciano.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nlOtHq2jvVA/UGHz7WO298I/AAAAAAAAFho/s7yqw_uKbDg/s1600/IMG_1945.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nlOtHq2jvVA/UGHz7WO298I/AAAAAAAAFho/s7yqw_uKbDg/s640/IMG_1945.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
While in Florence, I was somewhat lost trying to find the Accademia museum to see The David. I stumbled upon a yarn shop when I came down this street. It was one I had looked up online prior to our departure.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e7dp3lzC9rk/UGHwJyaj7II/AAAAAAAAFg4/2UyRULTt2e4/s1600/IMG_2619.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="356" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e7dp3lzC9rk/UGHwJyaj7II/AAAAAAAAFg4/2UyRULTt2e4/s640/IMG_2619.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was Campolmi Roberto Filati Yarn</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PR-JkwaGQhg/UGHySDOa4pI/AAAAAAAAFhA/csCsE4OX8NI/s1600/IMG_2616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PR-JkwaGQhg/UGHySDOa4pI/AAAAAAAAFhA/csCsE4OX8NI/s640/IMG_2616.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Right there on my little "lost" pathway. It was so comforting to turn and see this wall of yarn in front of me. You have no idea...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l4WgG8CyiKQ/UGHyfGF33XI/AAAAAAAAFhI/VSPoXDWZbm4/s1600/IMG_2615.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l4WgG8CyiKQ/UGHyfGF33XI/AAAAAAAAFhI/VSPoXDWZbm4/s640/IMG_2615.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I of course went in and immediately got 3 skeins of sportweight merino, just because I could, and because it was only 2 euros a skein.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mRGQaulD5ZY/UGHyoMdn4WI/AAAAAAAAFhQ/e4eJIHmHdbA/s1600/IMG_2617.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mRGQaulD5ZY/UGHyoMdn4WI/AAAAAAAAFhQ/e4eJIHmHdbA/s640/IMG_2617.JPG" width="358" /></a></div>
The ladies there were so nice and pointed me in the direction of the museum...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gFRGD-w2djw/UGHytFsM28I/AAAAAAAAFhY/QruVRIC_7SM/s1600/IMG_2627.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gFRGD-w2djw/UGHytFsM28I/AAAAAAAAFhY/QruVRIC_7SM/s640/IMG_2627.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
And since I had to get something from a street vendor, I chose this one in a lively stripe. It is cotton.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-imAUrGROuYA/UGHywPg1CZI/AAAAAAAAFhg/WOBYhD0HZJY/s1600/IMG_2628.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-imAUrGROuYA/UGHywPg1CZI/AAAAAAAAFhg/WOBYhD0HZJY/s640/IMG_2628.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I actually was glad I didn't bring any knitting with me. We had absolutely no room in our bags since we carried everything on, and we had no elbow room in economy class, and our brains were just fried from the long flights that all we wanted to do was zone out and stare at our little screens and wait for them to bring us the next drink or meal on the flight. We could not sleep the whole way to and fro. It was a great trip, besides the travel part! What's a knitter to pack when she is going to a warm place...but taking alot of airplanes? Yes, the Kindle to be sure, that is a given.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Getting ready for our trip to Italy. It is fun! And alot of work. All the planning and organizing. I have the required lightweight, quick dry clothes, travel shoes, a travel purse... really nothing frivolous at all. The bare minimum clothing and underthings. A few scarves. One dress. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ec2c4VrYWW4/UB8JJ-qa9iI/AAAAAAAADOU/4K4X8UuatZs/s1600/resizeIMAG1500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ec2c4VrYWW4/UB8JJ-qa9iI/AAAAAAAADOU/4K4X8UuatZs/s640/resizeIMAG1500.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Even though I am keeping it very light, I am at the weight limit already on the carryon...We'll see if I can squeeze any knitting on to the plane!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am not sure what I would want to take and knit. I know if I see someone else knitting and I don't have mine, I'll be jealous...Whatever I decide to take, I will have to carry it all around. In case I get a mean agent, who demands my needles are dangerous and I must leave them behind...(not likely, as TSA says you can take them on board), I don't want it to be something very valuable. I suppose socks, yes, I know, I heard you said "socks",..I am not into socks, remember? Ha ha, I suppose I could start for fun. I already knit a mini shawl, which I am wondering now where it will fit and if it will seem too hot in the weather there. Unless I wear it on the plane. I do plan to try to visit a yarn shop while there in Lucca. I am not sure what to expect to find in the way of bringing any yarn back with me, however it will be interesting to see what they carry. It is not my primary goal of the trip, so I will just be pleasantly surprised if the shop has anything worthwhile.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Meanwhile I will continue to do suitcase "lift" exercises to gear up around the house and keep up with my walking, as I hear we will we be doing plenty of that!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3561803519630375963.post-16459402127012115272012-07-20T20:40:00.000-07:002012-07-20T20:43:38.364-07:00Extreme and Stormy Pantry MakeoverWhat does one do in Seattle when plans have canceled due to summer thunder and rain showers? I know, sounds wimpy doesn't it? I mean Seattle and rain usually go together. However, a bus ride downtown in the rain wasn't on our agenda, so we will postpone our excursion for another day. Instead, I know what sounds fun....Organize my pantry! I googled: "My pantry is the size of a closet" for some ideas. I seriously did. Well, turns out that my shelves are a good thing to have instead of other things like "no shelves" or, according to some people who also hated them..."wire baskets."<br />
Here's how mine looks to start...Not too bad, but not too good either.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9hldui1TVdc/UAoc2AcrROI/AAAAAAAADKY/T4e3p6tyFm0/s1600/resizeIMAG1373.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9hldui1TVdc/UAoc2AcrROI/AAAAAAAADKY/T4e3p6tyFm0/s640/resizeIMAG1373.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
I should show you how many bags I removed from the lowest shelf area. They were taking up far too much real estate. Three bags stuffed with, well....plastic BAGS! And then all the paper bags. We will use some of both for garbage, so I am not one of those people who can go bagless in Seattle. I will recycle the plastic. And yes, I do have some reusable bags, so don't judge me!:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pZe11OVnpRQ/UAodGt_SKsI/AAAAAAAADKg/_oVOG7wLkzs/s1600/resizeIMAG1383.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pZe11OVnpRQ/UAodGt_SKsI/AAAAAAAADKg/_oVOG7wLkzs/s640/resizeIMAG1383.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Where to begin? First, REMOVE all items from the pantry. This could get fun. Ah, but first, turn on the music, and get out the chips. I mean, I had to clean things up, right? Plus, they are from T.Joes and have no preservatives. They sure are ORANGE though. Weird. Now we are rolling! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6PeujYlMSnk/UAofnZ_MK7I/AAAAAAAADLQ/fI8tx8S3W_Q/s1600/resizeIMAG1382.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6PeujYlMSnk/UAofnZ_MK7I/AAAAAAAADLQ/fI8tx8S3W_Q/s640/resizeIMAG1382.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
All right. That wasn't too hard. Oh, what's that you say? Arrange the items according to HEIGHT so you can see your tallest items. Put "like items" together.... All right. Next?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NjarXrucSwA/UAob_UwN38I/AAAAAAAADKA/mGHqmOOm-xI/s1600/resizeIMAG1376.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NjarXrucSwA/UAob_UwN38I/AAAAAAAADKA/mGHqmOOm-xI/s640/resizeIMAG1376.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Check all items for the EXPIRATION date. Ok, that sounds easy enough. That means start a bag for RECYCLING and start another bag for things to be TOSSED OUT.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0v74iA-h9BE/UAocMjUA7XI/AAAAAAAADKI/w-O2HKdNHys/s1600/IMAG1385.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0v74iA-h9BE/UAocMjUA7XI/AAAAAAAADKI/w-O2HKdNHys/s640/IMAG1385.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Oh, you mean the moment I have been waiting for has finally arrived? I can chuck the can of sardines in the trash that I have so patiently and nicely been saving for my husband to eat? He says he would never eat them "alone"...and that's just how he would eat them around me...so, they are expired...So sorry. Bye Bye, sardines!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PTdBkVYpwgI/UAocffXZ4gI/AAAAAAAADKQ/Mu23N1qygd4/s1600/resizeIMAG1374.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PTdBkVYpwgI/UAocffXZ4gI/AAAAAAAADKQ/Mu23N1qygd4/s640/resizeIMAG1374.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next, WIPE off the shelves so they are nice and clean. My sort of empty shelves before they were cleared:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ic-_HWKUBrQ/UAogeeShNVI/AAAAAAAADLg/uSw2ICRbgJY/s1600/IMAG1377.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ic-_HWKUBrQ/UAogeeShNVI/AAAAAAAADLg/uSw2ICRbgJY/s640/IMAG1377.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ta Da! Then come up with a plan to put the things back that makes the most sense. Well, we also have a daughter who likes her certain kinds of food and so I thought maybe I'd give her some space for it. The Vias are mine :):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6EtJUk3HRZg/UAoeM6CjAjI/AAAAAAAADKo/JuUQhk9BHGk/s1600/resizeIMAG1379.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6EtJUk3HRZg/UAoeM6CjAjI/AAAAAAAADKo/JuUQhk9BHGk/s640/resizeIMAG1379.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
So she will get a little shelf...I overturned a tin to make a raised shelf for the smaller cans, like olives and tuna that get hidden. I put all the canned food on one shelf.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZAk3Mi42yJA/UAofGv14gfI/AAAAAAAADLA/6gQjsBHyiPI/s1600/resizeIMAG1380.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZAk3Mi42yJA/UAofGv14gfI/AAAAAAAADLA/6gQjsBHyiPI/s640/resizeIMAG1380.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And all the pasta on another shelf. Gee, do we eat much pasta? Not really. Why does it get a whole shelf? I might have to rethink this later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cOBYf6XJz6E/UAofPnehLgI/AAAAAAAADLI/XE93lE4pIec/s1600/resizeIMAG1386.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cOBYf6XJz6E/UAofPnehLgI/AAAAAAAADLI/XE93lE4pIec/s640/resizeIMAG1386.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Ok, so here is the before, minus all the bags on the lower shelf:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RrZ6gni7U_s/UAogF4DPnFI/AAAAAAAADLY/XUe2fyJ6fNU/s1600/resizeIMAG1373.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RrZ6gni7U_s/UAogF4DPnFI/AAAAAAAADLY/XUe2fyJ6fNU/s640/resizeIMAG1373.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
And here's the after. Saved some bags, but now have room for napkins. Things are easier to see and have a place. It looks alot better to me, and that is what counts right? Even if you cannot tell a difference, I sure can. I took out 3 bags of trash and two bags of cardboard, and 3 plastic bags full of plastic bags (!) to be recycled. At least it looks tidy for the next few hours, right?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SzaKOIMD-Os/UAoes5mDxBI/AAAAAAAADKw/y9UA7Kwu6HI/s1600/ResizeIMAG1388.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SzaKOIMD-Os/UAoes5mDxBI/AAAAAAAADKw/y9UA7Kwu6HI/s640/ResizeIMAG1388.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That SO inspired me, I moved on to the baking cabinet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aDUpyCBAwls/UAohMMcacDI/AAAAAAAADLw/Cw651zDlQds/s1600/resizeIMAG1389.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aDUpyCBAwls/UAohMMcacDI/AAAAAAAADLw/Cw651zDlQds/s640/resizeIMAG1389.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tons of stuff in here too, and alot of it expired. I was able to move a few items that were not used often to another cabinet location and free up more space for important things used all the time in baking. And after, much better!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qNjITop3nhE/UAohfS0wisI/AAAAAAAADL4/kHpXpDdjKs0/s1600/resizeIMAG1393.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qNjITop3nhE/UAohfS0wisI/AAAAAAAADL4/kHpXpDdjKs0/s640/resizeIMAG1393.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now let's tackle the all around medicine, tea and weird cabinet by the sink:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TEbuIDBV3yw/UAohsXhFBrI/AAAAAAAADMA/rRCoVNBWtkE/s1600/resizeIMAG1391.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TEbuIDBV3yw/UAohsXhFBrI/AAAAAAAADMA/rRCoVNBWtkE/s640/resizeIMAG1391.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Can you say "expired vitamins?" That took up alot of valuable room here. Also, tea...decaf, regular, and all kinds in between. I was able to get rid of, consolidate and rearrange, toss and...voila!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rhYhp4dGJ4k/UAoh-5bdYcI/AAAAAAAADMI/QrR1DpY1qQI/s1600/resizeIMAG1392.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rhYhp4dGJ4k/UAoh-5bdYcI/AAAAAAAADMI/QrR1DpY1qQI/s640/resizeIMAG1392.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
May not look different to you, but it is a kinder, cleaner version of what it was before! Yahoo!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I had so much more energy left after all this, I used my Shark and vaccumed and steam mopped the floor! It was a stormy day, but I made good use out of it. I wonder what I can organize next?</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3561803519630375963.post-10463393841737174382012-07-16T13:57:00.003-07:002012-07-16T16:59:50.204-07:00Thrifty Fun Summer Finds<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Sometimes a little summer thrift browsing can make you happy! Here are a few of my recent treasures. A little West Elm vase found at the consignment shop near me in a pretty chic shade of blue. The flowers were from dahlia plants in our yard that we planted last summer. I just go out and clip more when I need fresh ones.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
An avocado green vase from thrift store in that old type of glass that reminds me of my Grandma Lois, fit for some of our lavendar, also from the back yard.<br />
<br />

A Sigrid Olsen top found at V. Village for a mere pittance. I have never been able to afford one from this designer. <br />

Some Franco Sarto flats found at St. Vincent dePaul, never worn. And some Me Too flats, also never worn. Both for mere dollars. I am loving thrift store finds!</div>

A summer fun plant found at Trader Joes that can tolerate indoor lighting as well as shade, with beautiful curling leaves and a plum underside. <br />

Having shopping and summer fun doesn't have to cost much! It's time to go out in the back yard and pick some blueberries :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3561803519630375963.post-91615377088997681542012-07-07T20:55:00.001-07:002012-07-08T19:55:15.226-07:00Roma Wrap/Shawl<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hear you need to keep your shoulders covered when entering churches in Italy...so for fun, I thought I would try a little wrap/shawl and see how it feels. It might be too heavy and hot to wear, but I thought since I already had the yarn, why not? I am not particularly into shawls, but I think I might be more inclined to wear one that is more the size of a wrap and not too busy and complicated. I found this one on Ravelry. It is called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/azzus-shawl"><span style="color: #660000;">Azzu's Shawl</span></a>. Shown in progress, the little wrap...using one skein of a sport weight superwash Unisono merino wool using size 7 needles. I have used this yarn before and it's really pretty, made in Germany. It is self-striping and lovely to knit with. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8BtcS7Q6OeQ/T_kBD8r4-5I/AAAAAAAADFo/e28TLUY5zIY/s1600/IMAG1134.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8BtcS7Q6OeQ/T_kBD8r4-5I/AAAAAAAADFo/e28TLUY5zIY/s640/IMAG1134.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was a fun project to take along and knit while at the beach or in the car. Very simple. I was able to make it to almost the end of the pattern, then was about to run out of yarn so I bound off. </div>

Modeling the finished wrap/shawl at the ocean. It is pretty, yet smallish. It looks rather bunchy as it is not blocked out yet. The stockinette edges roll in some. However, blocking can work wonders...so when I get home I will try that.</div>

Kind of cheating here and holding the point down in the back to spread the shawl out for you to see.<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ObjZUQ3_7jc/T_kAn8WWITI/AAAAAAAADFY/yJk3TAYGepI/s1600/P1000240.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ObjZUQ3_7jc/T_kAn8WWITI/AAAAAAAADFY/yJk3TAYGepI/s640/P1000240.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

I found myself having a very coherent conversation complete with giving her instructions on how to properly felt a tote, which yarn to buy and which type of washer to use..."no, a front-loader wouldn't work, need a top-loading machine to properly agitate the tote...get Cascade 220 because the tote will use alot of wool and you don't want to waste your good Noro wool on the whole tote...Here's my email, I'll spell it out for you. My Ravelry name is..."etc. She agreed to tuck a note in my bag with her Ravelry name. I heard her say to the other nurse, "This is Jeannine, she's a nice lady and she's a knitter." Then I felt the puffy blow up pillowy thing they use to lift you up and transport you to another bed. "She's helping," they said as I tried to help scoot over. I learned several things through this. After checking the bag later when I got home, that yes, I did really have this conversation and it was not a figment of my imagination. I did confirm this was truly a real person on Ravelry days later when she replied to my "friend" request to my delight! <br />
I also learned that while under sedation, our brain can still bring up things that are cemented and of value that we have committed to memory. That we can hear things that people are saying. This is a lesson to those nurses out there that we really can hear what you are saying even if we seem to be in a medicated stupor! <br />
It is also an eye-opener that what we value as important, will come to the forefront of our mind, even when we are not coherent. <br />
When we were younger, it was so much easier to memorize poems, songs and scripture. And those things are all still there, right under the surface. A comfort, if we were to ever need to draw on them in time of need. Our minds, body and spirit work together in an amazing way.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3561803519630375963.post-86210150560152517892012-05-30T21:07:00.002-07:002012-05-30T21:10:30.694-07:00Engage and On GaugeI encourage you to visit this wonderful blog of a good friend of mine:<a href="http://www.polishedstonesministry.com/"><span style="color: #660000;">I Choose Joy: Polished Stones Ministry</span></a><br />

This is not my own idea. I had a friend who made a very pretty one too which inspired me, then I searched and found this blog on my own. I plan to make a trio to hang in a row on the wall above our TV.<br />
<br />
The way I made mine:<br />
Purchase 16 x 20" white canvas from Michaels ( I got a deal on a set of 5)<br />
Black acrylic paint, large bottle<br />
sponge paint brushes of multiple sizes<br />
craft papers of your choosing, cut into leaves ranging around 1-2" in length<br />
Mod Podge-shiny or matte finish, I chose matte<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t004_Qa84OI/T6ICnxGCMLI/AAAAAAAAC_8/VaXDKJFnAE8/s1600/IMAG0806.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t004_Qa84OI/T6ICnxGCMLI/AAAAAAAAC_8/VaXDKJFnAE8/s640/IMAG0806.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Paint the board all black. Use two coats, letting dry in between coats. Don't forget the edges also. Wash your brushes out well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e6EWCWMdocY/T6IC2f-uuVI/AAAAAAAADAE/rV6RefKNH7U/s1600/IMAG0810.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e6EWCWMdocY/T6IC2f-uuVI/AAAAAAAADAE/rV6RefKNH7U/s400/IMAG0810.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eZAOgSlpBBg/T6IC-13EzHI/AAAAAAAADAM/x4fS0liAf-E/s1600/IMAG0811.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eZAOgSlpBBg/T6IC-13EzHI/AAAAAAAADAM/x4fS0liAf-E/s640/IMAG0811.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Cut the craft papers first into strips, then into rectangles, then into little and larger leaves, according to your tastes and color desires.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e1_AwmEvn84/T6IDL4Y382I/AAAAAAAADAU/j3IcNT0Gg5s/s1600/IMAG0813.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e1_AwmEvn84/T6IDL4Y382I/AAAAAAAADAU/j3IcNT0Gg5s/s320/IMAG0813.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uXfKv2A5KKM/T6IDSIodNdI/AAAAAAAADAc/640I8i09rf0/s1600/IMAG0815.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uXfKv2A5KKM/T6IDSIodNdI/AAAAAAAADAc/640I8i09rf0/s640/IMAG0815.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
I found I preferred smaller leaves in the end....so I cut some of these down smaller. Arrange on your board to get a feel for where you want them. Trace around a juice glass for the center of the flower shape.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VEqHs25fAoY/T6IDwZItutI/AAAAAAAADAk/eeEJp1AnbLk/s1600/IMAG0816.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VEqHs25fAoY/T6IDwZItutI/AAAAAAAADAk/eeEJp1AnbLk/s640/IMAG0816.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6pUvNYb32Pk/T6IEAIeiOmI/AAAAAAAADAs/sk_Kh2LkOLo/s1600/IMAG0940.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6pUvNYb32Pk/T6IEAIeiOmI/AAAAAAAADAs/sk_Kh2LkOLo/s640/IMAG0940.jpg" width="360" /></a>I changed my mind on the center color and swapped around the leaves a bit. Then glued them down with a glue stick.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aB-psQAyeeA/T6IEV6GQG9I/AAAAAAAADA0/xiZmVpnrw-M/s1600/IMAG0951.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aB-psQAyeeA/T6IEV6GQG9I/AAAAAAAADA0/xiZmVpnrw-M/s640/IMAG0951.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
You can overlap the leaves on the edges, just try to secure them down as best as you can.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I9Mls__jC2Q/T6ISvCPfgpI/AAAAAAAADBQ/73shlNnxFBQ/s1600/IMAG0959.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I9Mls__jC2Q/T6ISvCPfgpI/AAAAAAAADBQ/73shlNnxFBQ/s640/IMAG0959.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_YPaUzjQIcY/T6IE-W1A8UI/AAAAAAAADBE/oF1q-0HU7KE/s1600/IMAG0954.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_YPaUzjQIcY/T6IE-W1A8UI/AAAAAAAADBE/oF1q-0HU7KE/s640/IMAG0954.jpg" width="360" /></a>As it appears before the Mod Podge-ing. (Above) Then I used Mod Podge in matte finish (below) to gently layer on over with a clean foam brush. Careful, you don't want the edges of your papers to lift or get too soaked and buckle. One layer of Mod Podge on:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2oyIrnXGjUo/T6IExU2zzzI/AAAAAAAADA8/MrZ-0nr_cO8/s1600/IMAG0955.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2oyIrnXGjUo/T6IExU2zzzI/AAAAAAAADA8/MrZ-0nr_cO8/s640/IMAG0955.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Two layers of Mod Podge on. If you want a texture or stippled look you can make it so using your brush strokes in that way. I tried to make mine smooth.<br />
Let dry between layers. You can do as many layers as you like or none at all. I may stick with two.<br />
Now to let dry and see how it turns out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Voila! Wall art!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A little cinnamon wool and big needles, endless garter stitch and a super easy pattern. <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/annabel-cardigan">Annabel Cardigan, from Quince and Co.</a> I got two skeins of Eco Wool, but barely used the 2nd skein for this one. I did use dpns for the sleeves and you can see where I had the needle changes so I tried to smooth that out when blocking. This sweater is worked from the top down, sleeves put on holders and worked at the end.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-D292AX97TQ8/T4ZbWZyyqyI/AAAAAAAAC9A/ERaLUSiXKOk/s640/IMAG0676.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Feeling a little crafty, I got some Roving and watched a tutorial on felting it in warm soapy water. It would've worked better if I used the roving that comes in fluffy sheets instead of the yarn.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Pvprgjozpys/T4ZbhUCF3RI/AAAAAAAAC9I/d77rarbMTLw/s1600/IMAG0677.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Pvprgjozpys/T4ZbhUCF3RI/AAAAAAAAC9I/d77rarbMTLw/s400/IMAG0677.jpg" width="225" /></a> I got my hot water ready with the soap in it and made a ball, and started working it side to side in my hands.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tKOTZGTS0kE/T4Zbo-4Nb-I/AAAAAAAAC9Q/qaXKLCI1U-U/s1600/IMAG0672.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tKOTZGTS0kE/T4Zbo-4Nb-I/AAAAAAAAC9Q/qaXKLCI1U-U/s640/IMAG0672.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CSa1aEIlDFY/T4Zbv0K9bXI/AAAAAAAAC9Y/NQLK3FQc3w0/s1600/IMAG0678.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CSa1aEIlDFY/T4Zbv0K9bXI/AAAAAAAAC9Y/NQLK3FQc3w0/s640/IMAG0678.jpg" width="640" /></a>It looked like this:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DGX01m-4pcI/T4ZbyCXpUvI/AAAAAAAAC9g/w_oBGOYdX5w/s1600/IMAG0682.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DGX01m-4pcI/T4ZbyCXpUvI/AAAAAAAAC9g/w_oBGOYdX5w/s640/IMAG0682.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Then I added on a color to it. Again, this would work much better if you had the roving separated into thin strips instead of it being in a twisted yarn.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gOTWDKsURV0/T4Zb3ud8eiI/AAAAAAAAC9o/SV1Y0p2Do_o/s1600/IMAG0687.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gOTWDKsURV0/T4Zb3ud8eiI/AAAAAAAAC9o/SV1Y0p2Do_o/s640/IMAG0687.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
My end result was this little funny display of yarn balls, stuck on some floral stems and put in a vase. It added some green and whimsy the table. However the yarn is visible where I wound it. I also tried putting the balls in the washer inside a fabric bag. If I were to try this again, I would either take the time to really separate out the layers or buy the roving in big "batting" type form. But it was fun to try out.<br />

For mid winter break, we thought we'd look for our adventures in Portland this week. I had three goals: Food, Coffee and Yarn! I can say that every goal was met beyond my expectations!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What a great place to get away for the feel of a different city, with fantastic restaurants and all within either trolley or walking distance from our hotel. Shown here, a fabulous meal at Pazzo. Filet mignon prepared "just so"...over braised kale and roasted sea salted fingerling potatoes. Need I say more? My husband had the duck. I was too busy eating mine to ask him about</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
how he liked his!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-md_CTaWeNEY/T0WWlTkBuNI/AAAAAAAAC3c/a9sOuLbhFgk/s1600/IMAG0562.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-md_CTaWeNEY/T0WWlTkBuNI/AAAAAAAAC3c/a9sOuLbhFgk/s640/IMAG0562.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RwqSN0c_hxo/T0WWsWglqZI/AAAAAAAAC3k/aSh5ctIVbLM/s1600/IMAG0563.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RwqSN0c_hxo/T0WWsWglqZI/AAAAAAAAC3k/aSh5ctIVbLM/s640/IMAG0563.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
House made bread...carbo-licious!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IgaqPKdbOiQ/T0WWvR8tooI/AAAAAAAAC3s/A5zuVt69xrU/s1600/IMAG0561.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IgaqPKdbOiQ/T0WWvR8tooI/AAAAAAAAC3s/A5zuVt69xrU/s640/IMAG0561.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Tiramisu, of course for dessert...the best we'd ever eaten.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Kf7BY0iOoKs/T0WW0JLDauI/AAAAAAAAC30/Sh6WOZta1o4/s1600/IMAG0565.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Kf7BY0iOoKs/T0WW0JLDauI/AAAAAAAAC30/Sh6WOZta1o4/s640/IMAG0565.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
So, as you can see, the food part of the story was going well. Now for the yarn and coffee hunt.Within a short trolley ride we found ourselves in the Pearl District. And while I waited for a yarn shop to open (they were late!)...pretty views like this were near by.<br />

Coming back to the yarn shop, after getting coffee, I found they had opened. I had been here once before: Dublin Bay Knitting Company.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They have a lovely selection, though sometimes not the particular brand or type you might find readily elsewhere. I was looking for a chunky wool but ended up finding a chunky worsted cotton from Blue Sky Alpaca instead.</div>

Besides yarn, the main reason I am walking around out here in the Pearl District is to find the Sisters Coffee, always a favorite of ours when we head down to Bend, OR. This is one of their newer stores.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Lots of shops to browse in through the Pearl District. In the Keen store I found this cute chalk art sign and met the artist/clerk. A very fun discovery!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another fabulous dinner out at the famous "Paley's". A trolley ride into the Pearl landed us practically at the door step. Set inside a large house in huge living room setting, is a gem of a restaurant. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Our last day, so I must make the most of getting up early and off to fetch my second latte of the trip at Stumptown Coffee, another favorite we also discovered in Bend that has since opened also in Seattle. So I have met the food and coffee goals, indeed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Though I have a destination point to reach: Voo Doo Doughnuts. I have heard about this place, apparently open 24/7 and it had a line around the block the day prior to my visit. Today, however being a regular work day for most people, I had the place to myself.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is the quirkiest place you will find, with more sugar on each doughnut than you ever thought imaginable. I came for the bacon and maple bars, their most popular one. I ended up settling for something smaller and just getting a picture of all the madness in the case that you can pick from.</div>

Satisfied with my choice, and now REALLY needing to get in my walk for my "Walk Challenge" that I started this week, in an even bigger way...I headed over to Powell's Books back by our hotel. That might give me, oh 1/2 a mile or so and burn a few calories.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It looks like even the dogs around here are in need of a little scarf and leggings.</div>

Well will you look at this? This whole entire wall filled with books about knitting! And a little birdie said they may soon also carry yarn here as well.</div>

It's time to check out of the hotel and we have one last important destination before we leave Portland.....We are headed to the land of Yarnia! Here is is on the other side of town on SE Division street. I had seen it online and knew immediately I was headed there on this trip. Here, you choose from an array of fibers to custom make your own yarn. A sort of do it yourself yarn place! Genius! I set to work to pick out my fibers. Which should I choose? I had a project in mind and they were very helpful in assisting me to assure I had enough fibers to make the appropriate weight for my garment.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have chosen my fibers: wool, cotton, rayon, linen and together, they will make my sport weight needed to do "Leaving" sweater. Here she is calculating my yarn weight and pricing.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aOqC2yTteZ0/T0WY6C1CdzI/AAAAAAAAC58/Hn3NKhaBXX0/s1600/IMAG0608.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aOqC2yTteZ0/T0WY6C1CdzI/AAAAAAAAC58/Hn3NKhaBXX0/s640/IMAG0608.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next she sets the yarn up and readies it for the machine. It's all so exciting!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UizGULvQSpI/T0WZFvspfyI/AAAAAAAAC6E/ojfWapexpDQ/s1600/IMAG0609.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UizGULvQSpI/T0WZFvspfyI/AAAAAAAAC6E/ojfWapexpDQ/s640/IMAG0609.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And away the machine whirs! My yarn is winding up here rather swiftly and in no time flat, I have 1240 or so yards!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is a lovely light weight and pretty blend of seafoam and mushroom tones. I hope for a great outcome using it for my sweater!</div>

I can see that I have room to snug it up closer to my body and pull it in tighter across my front. It is very comfortable and just the right weight for wearing a layer underneath. I was able to eke it out in one skein. Barely! Final mods: Added two stitches extra at the underarm (as I mentioned below) than called for in my size in order that the K2P2 rib would come out even on the sleeves. I also ended the front and neck ribbing two rows prior to the pattern directions, since I was about to run out of yarn and wanted to make it with one skein. Whew! I had maybe 4 inches left and that was it. Talk about cutting it close.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ow9S4M4REyU/Tx916RKeyNI/AAAAAAAACyE/fjPCmYHBm0Q/s1600/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ow9S4M4REyU/Tx916RKeyNI/AAAAAAAACyE/fjPCmYHBm0Q/s640/020.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Leaflet Sweater is coming along rather nicely, rather swiftly in the chunky yarn. Progress shown here. Knit down the back putting sleeve stitches on hold, and when reached the end of the 3rd leaflet, I knit on the lower ribbing. Then using dpn's for the sleeves, knit them downward in the round. Only mod is I added 2 more underarm stitches so my P2K2 rib would come out even. Well that is obvious, don't you think? However, I never guessed we would be without power in 29 degree (below) weather and I'd be knitting with an REI headlamp on my head. So thankful for our gas fireplace! A sneak peak at the next sweater project. I am dreaming of spring...spring green and leaves. <br />

I'm doing the body on circulars from the bottom up, as directed in the pattern. The sleeves are knit separately and I'm doing those on size 10 dpn's. They will be attached to sweater body and the yoke will be knit upward. The fun part is coming...knitting the cute owls! This is going to be a really cute sweater!</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/owls-2"><span style="color: #990000;">Owls</span></a>, by Kate Davies:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KJs9dlSbha0/TxNyoSIa0AI/AAAAAAAACvk/-wq8WJDvXjk/s1600/IMG_5494.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KJs9dlSbha0/TxNyoSIa0AI/AAAAAAAACvk/-wq8WJDvXjk/s640/IMG_5494.JPG" width="426" /></a></div><br />

First, I need to show the mother/daughter project results of our Vitamin D sweater! My mom looks great in hers! She showed up in it Christmas morning so I ran and put mine on too. It was fun to do a project with my mom. She's a fantastic knitter! And a very fun momma!<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kIZOw7Vqqt8/Tvk-fnMcGyI/AAAAAAAACtQ/vG5uSKsjD9U/s1600/IMG_5473.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kIZOw7Vqqt8/Tvk-fnMcGyI/AAAAAAAACtQ/vG5uSKsjD9U/s640/IMG_5473.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
My daughter has been busy making these little felt ornaments this year and this set belongs to her lucky sister:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rmmprYnR0lY/Tvk-4eXSGRI/AAAAAAAACtY/7dxyRSpoEsk/s1600/IMG_5456.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rmmprYnR0lY/Tvk-4eXSGRI/AAAAAAAACtY/7dxyRSpoEsk/s640/IMG_5456.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
This set belongs to lucky me!:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

She also made me these little notecards, somewhat similar to last years'. They are new little critters playing with yarn again! If you are interested in her etsy shop, it is here:{<span style="background-color: #444444;"> </span><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/helloyellowbirdstore"><span style="background-color: #444444; color: yellow;">helloyellowbird</span></a>}<br />

My husband was sneaky and asked my friend about getting me a yarn swift and ball winder without me knowing about it! I am having such fun winding up my skeins!<br />
